What is Organic?
Organic agriculture is an ecological production management system that promotes and enhances bio-diversity, bio-cycles and soil’s bio-activity. Organic agriculture eliminates the use of agrochemicals and non-natural fertilizers and incorporates management practices that restore, maintain and enhance ecological harmony.
"Organic" is a labeling term that denotes products produced under the authority of the Organic Foods Production Act. The principal guidelines for organic production are to use materials and practices that enhance the ecological balance of natural systems and that integrate the parts of the farming system into an ecological whole.
Organic food handlers, processors and retailers adhere to standards that maintain the integrity of organic agricultural products. The primary goal of organic agriculture is to optimize the health and productivity of interdependent communities of soil life, plants, animals and people.
What is Fair Trade?
The FAIRTRADE Mark is an independent consumer label which appears on products as an independent guarantee that disadvantaged producers in the developing world are getting a better deal.
For a product to display the FAIRTRADE Mark it must meet international Fair Trade standards. These standards are set by the international certification body Fairtrade Labelling Organisations International (FLO).
Producer organizations that supply Fair Trade products are inspected and certified by FLO. They receive a minimum price that covers the cost of sustainable production and an extra premium that is invested in social or economic development projects.
